The Nirco Day/Night fan moves 800 cubic feet of air per hour, which I figured was enough for a 19-foot boat. When it's sunny, the built-in solar cell recharges the NiCd battery, which powers the fan at night. The fan is easily removable from the 3" deck ring; the fan kit includes a pry-off deck plate to seal the opening. The only drawback is that there is no on/off switch. To turn the fan off, you have to remove the battery.
Since our forward hatch has raised ribs, we had to make an unusual hole so that it would mount flush with the top of the hatch. First, we cut the round hole for the deck ring. Then, we cut back the center rib on each side of the hole. The final opening looks a bit like the planet Saturn with its rings. It took a bit of sanding to get a good fit, but we've had no leaks.
