For our anniversary, Julie bought a gift for the boat. How thoughtful! Well,
I guess I had asked for it. She got me a Humminbird Wide 128 fish
finder. We had discussed getting some sort of depth/fish finder since we
do most of our sailing in rivers with variable depth. With the price of a
digital depth sounder about the same as a graphic fish finder, we opted for
the latter because of the extra information we get with it. Bottom contour
and composition are indicated in the display, and we all have fun looking
for the fish that show up from time to time, even though we don't fish
from the boat.
The picture shows the mounting of the display. The cables are enclosed in a jacket and led under the companionway, though the liner and into the stowage area. From there, they go forward to the battery and the transducer. The transducer is epoxied to the hull under the porta-potty. There is enough deadspace between the liner and hull at that location. It is only about a foot off the centerline of the boat.
