Not content to get woefully behind on the basement work, we've decided to rip off the back of our house and add more upstairs space. Since this is a major project in its own right, it has its own page:
The Addition - project description.
Check out the progress on the addition.
Check out our current progress on the family room.
Review our progress on the office.
Read Julie's comments about the project.
Since every home page on the Web seems to be "Under Construction", I thought I'd put up a page about a place that really is under construction: my home.
My real home, that is. We moved into our house in 1986 and have slowly been running out of room on the main floor. In the basement, however, we have lots of wasted space. That realization led us to the decision to finish the basement.
This set of pages will chronicle our home improvement adventures as we try to transform our rough, unfinished basement into an office, family room, kid's area and (hopefully) bathroom complete with hot tub.
Why are we putting this up for the world to see? Well, we're hoping to get some feedback on our plans and techniques from the other do-it-yourselfers out there, as well as sanity checking our own work by forcing ourselves to type it in. This also gives us a good excuse for experimenting with our page design and HTML skills.
The pre-work for this project involved upgrading our electrical service from 60-amp (with fuses) to 100-amp (with breakers). This was begun in March, 1995 and signed-off by the city inspector in April.
