We're adding a 12x15 dining area to the kitchen, getting new cabinets and appliances as well. Dan's room gets an 8-foot stretch, and he gets a real closet instead of the little one he has now. The bathroom gets the same stretch, plus some new fixtures that we're still considering. Mandy's room will become the new master bedroom after its 8-foot stretch and walk-in closet are completed. Mandy will move into our old bedroom.
This time, however, we've contracted the job out. Hatzenbeller Construction will be doing the work, so we can sit back, relax, and write checks. Julie will probably still want me to work on the basement remodel.
We're having a full basement dug under the addition, so I'll have even more space to finish in the future. Just shoot me now.
This is Ray's (the builder) drawing of the new rear view of the house, both interior (upper half) and exterior (lower half). Since the back wall of the house is moving eight feet (twelve, at the kitchen), the roof peak needs to move as well.
To get these blueprints on the page, I took a picture of them with my digital camera, a Sony Mavica FD71. I did it in less-than-ideal conditions, and I may retake them at some point. You can't read the printing, but you get the idea.
The large drawing above is the layout of the addition. You can't see it well, but there are some dashed lines at the left and right edges showing the old rear wall of the house. They don't line up because the kitchen and middle bedroom are cantilevered and extend about two feet farther back than the rest of the house currently. When it's finished, the dining area will extend four feet from the rest of the house.
In the print, the new master bedroom is on the left, then the bathroom, with its swanky new jacuzzi tub, then Daniel's room, then the kitchen/dining area. Again, I plan to retake this picture, though I don't know if you'll ever be able to read the printing.
